Do you apologise for being French or Canadian or English or Brazilian or Japanese, or Israeli or what ever?
NO of course you don't. That would never enter your head.
It has become far too easy for the entire world (including Americans themselves???)
to blame everything on "Americans" right now.
Screw that.
Its crap.

You don't find the rest of the world apologizing for their nationality, or worrying about offending the U.S. or any body else by being born some place?
You don't find the rest of the globe's citizen travelling around being contrite when they enter a country with the attitude, "Yes I know what my passport says. I am sorry you have to lay eyes on me, a foul American, today."
Not everything in the world is America's fault.
Humanity is what it is.
The earths citizens are to blame for the earths problems, both with regard to war and the environment.
It has always been so.
And guess what, it's not going to change because people are people.
There is NOTHING NEW under the sun.

So did Babylon.
World powers come and go.
Why?
Because they are populated with imperfect humanity.
When somebody comes along saying, "Entire Global Peace can be had for all people now!" then you will know beyond doubt that they are either a complete idiot, or the devil himself.
I am not blind.
Our country has some REAL problems.
But the shape the modern world and its trials and tribulations are not entirely our fault, and for us to go around apologizing for being Americans is WRONG.
On the contrary, who is it that rushes aid where its needed, even to potential enemies?

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we shouldn't apologize for being Americans, However; I do believe that a ton of the problems in the world are being instigated and perpetuated by us... It isn't exactly each individual citizen's fault, but rather the amount of corruptness in the three branches of government. Corruptness which, as you said, is due to the very fact that humanity is imperfect.
What one must remember is that a policy of appeasement is never the correct path, but that doesn't mean you should automatically go into war mode. Honestly, I think we need to focus our energy on space... I mean, imagine what we could do with a 98 BILLION dollar space budget... Expecially with the recent improvement in ion engines, theoretical warp drive, and this new propulsion system which will allow a probe to travel to the moon in 9 hrs, jupiter in 13 months, and pluto in ten years... I mean, that makes the entire colonization of mars thing all the more possible.
I guess what i'm trying to say is that it is particularly silly that we are busy fighting over things like oil and money when if we all just sat down and researched our options we could come up with an alternative, no? Sillyness
